Entry Procedures
Registration
By taking the opportunity to visit the school, both privately and on the published open occasions, your daughter will have the chance to begin to feel at ease in the school so that she is most likely to perform to the best of her ability at interview and during the assessment period.
Whilst our normal assessment process takes place in the early part of the Spring Term, please note that we are happy to consider late registrations and late assessments at any stage of the school year. Please contact Vanessa Hicks, Admissions Manager, directly if this is the case.
For entry into the school the following autumn, all applicants should complete a registration form, which is available from the back of the prospectus or can be downloaded by clicking here. This needs to be returned with the registration fee of £50, a passport-sized photograph and a copy of your daughter's Birth Certificate to Vanessa Hicks, Admissions Manager. We do ask that your Registration Form is sent to us by 31st December to ensure that she is in the admissions system. This will ensure that all details of your daughter's interview and assessment day reach you in plenty of time before the assessment procedure starts early in the Spring Term. You will then receive a letter containing information on what your daughter will need to bring with her. The only commitment from you at this stage is the Registration Fee.
Please make sure you read the Parental Contract within the Policies section of the website, as this includes important information regarding the registration process.
Assessment Days for entry in Autumn 2009
Girls join Dame Alice Harpur School from a wide range of independent and state maintained schools. Examination papers and assessment tasks are designed to test future potential and we take account of the fact that pupils in different schools may well have reached different stages at the time the assessments take place. Informal small group interviews give each applicant the opportunity to demonstrate the positive contribution she could make to this vibrant community.
The assessment days are designed to be as relaxed and informal as possible, giving all our candidates the chance to meet and interact with our current girls and sample a range of activities on offer. Girls are assessed in a range of subjects on the assessment day. Full details of our examination criteria for all age groups are detailed in our booklet Admission Procedure. This can be found in the back of the prospectus or can be downloaded by clicking here.
Prior to her assessment day, your daughter will have the benefit of an informal interview with a small group of candidates with the Headmistress or Head of the Junior School. We hope that this will provide her the reassurance necessary for her to do herself justice in the formal assessments.
Junior School candidate interviews | Week commencing 12th January 2009 |
Senior School candidate interviews | Week commencing 12th January 2009 |

Results of the assessment days will be posted to all parents on Wednesday 11th February 2009. Unfortunately, we are unable to give results over the telephone or prior to this date.
If an offer is made to your daughter, information will be sent out to you. Enclosed will be an Enrolment Form which, once signed by both parents and returned to the school with the Enrolment Fee, indicates that you have accepted the place and that you agree to the Terms and Conditions as indicated in the Parental Contract. This secures your daughter's place at the school. If any place is not accepted, or if the offer has not been accepted by the deadline given in the offer letter, the place will then be available to late entrants.
If you have applied for a Bursary and been successful, all details of the financial assistance available to you will be contained in the offer letter.
If your daughter is offered a place at Dame Alice, it will be held open until 5pm on Wednesday 4th March 2009. If, by then, we have not received confirmation that you wish to accept the place on her behalf, we shall assume that you wish to decline the place.
On receipt of your Enrolment Form, a welcome package will then be issued to you detailing all uniform requirements, school bus information, medical information, lunch arrangements and much more!
