Visiting the School

Once you have had a chance to look through our prospectus, we strongly recommend that you either visit the school on an Open Morning for a more informal introduction to Dame Alice and/or arrange for a personal visit to include an individually organised tour and discussion with the Headmistress/Head of the Junior School, depending on your daughter's age.

Open Events

Open Mornings are held in each Autumn Term. Although the school is not operating on a normal working day during Open Morning, families have the advantage of seeing all the facilities that we have on offer at their leisure and you have the opportunity to talk to staff and pupils who can respond informally to your questions. Both the Headmistress and the Head of the Junior School give talks on school life and there is also the opportunity to hear from the girls themselves! Tours are carried out by our girls who will take you to visit any area of the school that you wish to see.

Our next Open Morning will be held on Saturday 15th November 2008 from 9.15am to

1pm

If you have already requested a prospectus from us, you will automatically be sent an invitation to the Open Morning nearer the time of the event.

An Open House event is also held in the Summer Term each year. This gives prospective parents the chance to view the school during a normal working day, with pupil guides available to show visitors around the school.

Our next Open House event will be held on Tuesday 28th April 2009

For further information about any of our Open Days or if you wish to book a place on our next Open Morning, please contact Vanessa Hicks, Admissions Manager, directly on 01234 361915, email admissions@dahs.co.uk.

Individual Tours

We positively encourage, and parents also value, the experience of a private visit to the school. These may be arranged throughout the year, but it is best to come in term time when you can see the school in action. You may come with or without your daughter. You will have a tour of the school site which will include a tour of both the Junior and Senior School in the case of Junior School candidates, or a fuller tour of the Senior School for older candidates. The Headmistress, Mrs Jill Berry, likes to meet all prospective parents. This will give you the opportunity to discuss with her, and focus on, the needs and interests of your daughter.

Please contact Vanessa Hicks, Admissions Manager, on 01234 361915 to organise a mutually convenient time.

Sixth Form Entry

Girls wishing to join Dame Alice for the Sixth Form do not have an assessment day. Entry into the Sixth Form is dependent upon a series of short interviews with the relevant Heads of Department, a satisfactory report from your daughter's present Headteacher and good GCSE results. A conditional offer of a place will then be made, dependent on your daughter's GCSE results.

A Sixth Form Open Evening is held in the Autumn Term each year for entry in the following September. This provides a relaxed opportunity to meet Heads of Departments and to discuss subject options available to your daughter as well as finding out more about the benefits of a Sixth Form education at Dame Alice Harpur School.

Our next Sixth Form Open Evening will be held on Thursday 6th November 2008 at 7pm

Prospective Sixth Form candidates can spend a Taster Day in school when they shadow one of our current Sixth Form girls, observe tutorials and lessons, take part in activities, enjoy lunch in our new Sixth Form Café - basically becoming one of our students for the day! We will do our utmost to give you an opportunity to meet our specialist subject staff. Mrs Lennie, Head of Sixth Form, will also meet all girls who join us for the day and spend time explaining Sixth Form life to them.

Sixth Form Taster Days will be held in:

November 2008 and March 2009

The Admissions Manager, Vanessa Hicks, will be pleased to send you a copy of the Sixth Form prospectus and arrange an appointment for you to visit the school (admissions@dahs.co.uk).
