Music
All girls are enabled to participate fully in class Music by developing the following skills. Girls are encouraged to use their voice and develop expression in performance through clear diction and accurate pitch. They are involved in creating, performing and analysing short, descriptive compositions that combine sounds, movements and words, using a wide variety of percussion instruments. Rhythm games and listening exercises are used to develop a sense of pulse and an increased awareness of musical vocabulary is acquired by listening to, and appraising, music from different times and places. As they progress through the Junior School girls explore these areas in greater detail. By Year 6 they will be able to sing harmony parts confidently and accurately, play more complex instrumental parts with rhythmic and dynamic control and take the lead in creating, performing and providing suggestions for others.
In addition, girls may choose to have private tuition in any of the following instruments: pianoforte, guitar, woodwind instruments, string instruments, brass instruments, percussion, voice.
Girls are also welcome to take part in any of the various music groups which take place weekly at lunchtime or after school These include Senior Choir, Chamber Choir, String Group, Flute Choir, Clarinet Choir, Recorder Group, Brass Group, School Orchestra.
Concerts, musical productions and participation in music festivals take place throughout the year enabling the girls to share their talents with family and friends and to enjoy making music with pupils from other age groups and from other schools.
