Music
We are justly proud of the reputation we have gained for excellence in music. Our full-time music staff are assisted by a talented group of twenty three visiting music teachers who instruct and assist in a variety of ways. We spend a great deal of time devising musical opportunities for the girls at Dame Alice and there has been much research in recent years highlighting the positive effect of involvement in musical activities.
In addition to our programme of concerts and events within school, we frequently receive invitations to provide music at local events. We also perform in local and national competitions and undertake concert tours both in this country and further afield.
Musical events the academic year 2006-7 have included:
- Informal Concerts
- Performing Scenes from Oliver at the Independent Schools Exhibition at Milton Keynes
- A Party for the Visually Impaired
- Opening music for the Sixth Form Open Evening
- Three Lunchtime Concerts at St Paul's Church
- An Advent Carol Service at St Paul's Church
- The Christmas Concert
- The Carol Service
- A performance of Oliver
- The Bedfordshire Festival of Music Speech and Drama
- A Cabaret Evening
- The Spring Concert of Chamber Music
- A Chamber Music Masterclass
- A Trip to See Madam Butterfly at Milton Keynes Theatre
- The Summer Concert
- An Invitation Concert when professional musicians were invited to perform to an enthusiastic audience

Plans for 2007-8 include another visit to Grafham Water Centre where girls will experience a variety of formal and informal musical activities together with a selection of land and water based team-building activities.
We plan to start a Baroque Music ensemble and look forward to a performance of the Rutter Requiem at Christmas.
