Dance

Dance is taught as part of the Physical Education curriculum to develop the creative and aestetic aspect of the girls' development.

In addition to curricular dance, Dame Alice provides a very popular extra-curricular Dance Club.  Dance is also explored in cross curricular events, for example, the choreography for the Junior School production of Snow Queen was developed and taught during dance lessons.  In 2006, in collaboration with the French department, Years 5 and 8 explored movements based on Garlic Cloves, Snails, Bicycles and the 'Can-Can' as part of a French themed afternoon.

The school also holds an annual House Dance Competition, adjudicated by local dignitories.  In 2006, Maggie Killingbeck, the Head of Dance at de Montfort University, and Jayne Beard, one of our school governors, judged the competition, awarding Harpur House first place.
