Hockey
Hockey has a long and proud tradition at Dame Alice Harpur School and competitions are organised at school and house level in all age groups throughout the winter and spring terms.
The teams regularly get to the Midland's finals in both indoor and outdoor hockey and have reached the National Finals on several occasions. The school has produced three Internationals in recent times and Alex Scott is currently a member of the England squad.
Each year many of the girls represent the county teams and a few are invited to Regional Centres of Excellence. All teams play regular Saturday matches as well as some midweek fixtures and the U11, U12 and U13 age groups play in local leagues.
Additional coaching courses have been organised this year, lead by James Stedman who has 20 England caps and Jo Ellis, a bronze medallist at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. Through that provision, we endeavour to provide expert coaching for highly talented and enthusiastic players, as well as for those who are just keen to take exercise and develop skills.
Tours are organised biannually to Southern and Northern Hemisphere countries, which helps to widen the pupils awareness, not only of how the game is played in these countries but also of family life and attitudes to world affairs.

Australia tour - August 2007
In August 2007, 25 girls will be travelling to Singapore and Australia on a three week Hockey and Netball tour. The trip will be led by Mrs Fran Stedman and the girls will be playing eight matches during their visit. The tour starts in Singapore and moves to Perth, Alice Springs, Uluru, Cairns and Sydney and the girls will be staying in hotels and with host families throughout the tour. This is a marvellous opportunity for the girls to experience a competitive sports tour in a country where sport enjoys a high profile. Their sporting activity will be combined with sightseeing and
holidaying in a country which lives up to it nickname, 'The Lucky
Country'. Excursions will include a trip to the Great Barrier Reef, a sunset tour to Ayers Rock (Uluru), a visit to a rainforest and to the world famous Raffles Hotel.
