Netball

Netball starts at grass roots level with our Year 5s & 6s. We are leading advocates for promoting the game of High 5 with these age groups and the season starts with a festival hosted by Dame Alice Harpur School. Our superb all weather on-site netball courts are also utilised throughout the season for local district tournaments. There are clubs, matches and tournaments for all groups from Year 5 to 13, catering for more than 13 teams and 130 participants.

In the development stages of the game, we embrace a 'sport for all' approach, where all girls who regularly attend gain competition experience. As the girls mature, more of a performance ethos is employed. The teams are trained by qualified coaches including having the opportunity to benefit from the considerable knowledge and expertise of Maggie Jackson, a Dame Alice parent and one of the England coaches at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

As well as representing the school, there are many exciting opportunities that we positively encourage the girls to participate in which are extra to our normal school provision: champion coaching, children's university, county and developmental squads and All England netball summer schools.

As well as developing netball skills, we encourage the girls to widen their horizons and develop a more global perspective not only of the game but of other cultures. The social development is encouraged by our regular hosting of overseas teams, taking the Years 7 to 9 on a mini tour to Valkenberg and a biannual overseas tour for the senior teams.
