Polo

Glamorous, dashing and exciting - but don't take my word for it ...... check out some of the matches on www.polo.tv

Polo is Dame Alice's newest sport having been introduced in 2006 by our Bursar, a longstanding player. Already extremely popular, Dame Alice Harpur School Polo Club has a flourishing membership of around 15 girls.

Girls learn how to play through organised lessons with HPA qualified Polo coaches through Heathfield Park Polo Club and the Kirtlington Polo School. Set in a Capability Brown designed parkland, the fabulous Kirtlington Park is one of the more beautiful and rural corners of Oxfordshire. The clubs welcome everyone to come and experience the excitement of the game, the beautifully groomed horses, and the countryside in a relaxed and unique way.

Even if you're not the best rider, you'd be surprised how quickly you can get on. The ponies are incredibly responsive. They move left when you move left, right when you move right and - most reassuring of all - they stop when you give a little tug. The ponies have to be very good, they must be good enough to go forwards and docile enough not to do anything daft. They are simply - high performance ponies.

Girls who only started playing this year are very much looking forward their first tournament in the summer against a local boys' school.

...and of course, there are the events and parties. This year, a fantastic picnic in the park watching England vs. Australia at Kirtlington Park or the glamour of the Cartier International at Guards Club watching Prince Harry's team in the morning and England beating New Zealand in the afternoon - Ab Fab Darling!
