Careers Help
The Careers Department organises various events throughout the year, aimed at making our girls aware of the huge range of professional career opportunities open to them and the academic and personal qualities which are needed to enable them to succeed in their chosen careers.
We hold themed careers evenings, where speakers from Higher Education and industry give the girls and their parents first hand, current information on the entry routes into the careers covered and what it is really like working in these careers today. Mock interviews early in the school year provide girls in the Upper Sixth with invaluable experience in preparing for the real interviews many will have as part of their university application process and all will have as they enter the world of work. Conferences held throughout the year give pupils an experience of working life and raise awareness of the key transferable skills needed to succeed in life after school. Work experience and work shadowing often finally convince a girl that her chosen career really is for her or, in some cases, that the reality does not match her original impression. In all these areas, we are very fortunate in being able to draw on the support of many past pupils. It is so important for our current pupils to have strong, positive role models to inspire them and we know that they relate best to career women who have the same 'Dame Alice experience'.
We are very grateful to the many old girls who already support our activities in so many ways and who contribute to the success of the events we run. If you would like to become involved, too, please email me at linda.penney@dahs.co.uk or contact me through school so that I can provide you with further information of how you can do this.

University and Gap Year Feedback
We hope that you have enjoyed or are enjoying your time after Dame Alice, whether you chose to attend University, College or took a GAP year.
The Careers department is hoping to improve the lines of communication with our leavers and the service it offers to current Sixth Formers. By getting feedback from first year undergraduates and Gap Year students we can get a realistic perspective on the different options currently available and help our sixth formers make fully informed choices.
If you could take the time to fill in the short survey below that is relevant to you, it would be most appreciated. Also, if you would like to be put on our Careers contacts database then please do fill in a Keep In Touch form. The Careers database enables us to contact 'old girls' who might like to help us with careers events in the future, or who would be happy to talk to current students about their experiences. The information on this database is not and will never be used for anything else.
Many thanks for your assistance; please don't hesitate to contact the Careers Department if you have any questions and I look forward to receiving your responses.
Mrs Emma Garrett, Careers Administrator / Work Experience Co-Ordinator
