125th birthday celebrations

Very many thanks to all those who made our 125th Birthday Celebrations such a success. The tremendous team effort which went into the organisation and running of the huge variety of events showed so effectively the community spirit which exists within the school. Teaching and support staff worked together with the girls to commemorate this very special date in the school's history.

On Friday 4th May, pupils and staff ejoyed a day 'off timetable' to celebrate this special occassion. Older girls looked after younger ones, and their shared enthusiasm and commitment was a delight to see. The support and participation of many friends of the school was also a special part of the proceedings. A team of reporters from Russell House, led by Ms Jane Dewar, worked hard to generate 'Dame Alice on Friday', a fabulous record of the events of the day. (Click here to download).

Well done to all the girls who took part in the Birthday Showcase Evening on Wednesday 2nd May, a wonderful display of their wide-ranging talents!

The DAHSA 125th Birthday Reunion took place on Saturday 12th May. This was a tremendous day, with around 650 guests visiting us to help us to commemorate this very special date in the school's history. Many of our visitors were former pupils and members of staff from all eras, including previous Headmistresses Suzanne Morse and Rosanne Randle. We also welcomed back 16 Head Girls from over six decades. Many current parents and girls joined us during the afternoon for the PTA picnic. At 3pm the cake was cut by current Head Girl Kate Walters and our most mature returning former pupil, Muriel Smith, who left the school in 1925. Again, thanks to the many members of the teaching and support staff, DAHSA and PTA Committees and friends of the school who were involved in the arrangements for the day. It was a great success, and will certainly stand as one of the highlights of my time as Head here. I felt proud to be part of such an organisation.
