Exams Information

The Examinations Department

Examinations Officer: Mrs R Houghton

Assistant Examinations Officers: Ms A Cavener, Mrs J Davies

As some of you may already be thinking ahead to next year's holiday plans, we would like to advise you of the dates when results of external examinations will be available to collect from school in August 2008. Although results can easily be sent out from school, the majority of our pupils want to pick their results up as soon as possible. Help and advice regarding future plans will be available in school on these days for those girls collecting their results.

We strongly recommend that those girls receiving A2 level results pick them up from school personally so that their future plans can be finalised smoothly. It is therefore advisable to make your holiday plans with this in mind. The dates are:

AS/A2 results Thursday 14th August 2008

GCSE Results Thursday 21st August 2008

A set of notes has been put together so that parents of examination candidates can play their part in supporting their daughters through the periods of examinations and results. If you have queries that are not covered in the notes below, please contact a member of the Examinations Department, details below, for further advice.

Coursework for External Examinations

Parents of girls in Year 10 will be receiving a copy of the QCA booklet 'Coursework - a guide for parents' with their Dame Alice News. It provides information on how you can support your daughters when they are completing their coursework, for example in helping with working to deadlines and organisation. It also mentions plagiarism and explains how students and their teachers must ensure that the work is their own.

Parents of girls in year 11 have already received the QCA leaflet, but as girls in years 10-13 are likely to be completing coursework during their GCSE or A level courses, other parents may wish to have access to the information too. The leaflet itself can be downloaded from the QCA website address here (link to: http://www.qca.org.uk/qca_4184.aspx)

Another website that parents may find useful is Here (link to :http://www.parentscentre.gov.uk). In each case the search function can be used to look at issues surrounding coursework and plagiarism, along with many other matters of interest to parents. Please note also, that girls in years 10 to 13 will also have received a JCQ Notice to Candidates: Coursework and Portfolios which explains the rules and regulations about coursework
