The School Council
The School Council meets regularly throughout the year to discuss issues and to suggest changes across the school. There is also a specific School Council for the Sixth Form. This year the council meetings have been chaired by Cheryl Higgins and have achieved a wide variety of improvements:
Well being
• Healthy fruit smoothies are now available at breakfast club
• School Council budget is to be spent on the provision of Yoga lessons.
School Community
• Recommendation for inclusion of House drama and House singing events into the busy school diary
• Provided feedback from anti bullying week and Heads of Department will receive this in order to plan next year's anti bullying week.
Communication
• eDan is now accessible to the girls via Study-wiz, and hard copies are in the form rooms every Thursday. It is also sent to parents by email
• The School Council representative for each class has a session during form time when she highlights the important issues under discussion and the whole class can see it on the interactive white board.
Environmental issues
• Activities to encourage environmental savings have included placing signs above lights reminding girls to turn them off
• Visitors from St Mary's School, Arklow have visited us and we visited them as a part of the eco-schools plan.
Bedford Girls School Merger
• The School Council co-ordinated suggestions from across the school on topics such as the school name, school logo/motto, house names, house colours, house logos and the uniforms and sports kit
• School Council representatives from each year were part of the pupil forum With the Bedford High School girls they put forwards the ideas raised by the School Council. They sampled the school dinners from both schools to compare and contrast.
Sixth Form School Council
• Changed the newspapers in the common room
• Changed the library layout so there is more room for Sixth Form to work in the compass room
• Mug queen elected from each friendship group in the common room to resolve the clearing up the mugs problem!
• More variety of hot food in the Chequers the cafe
• Review the system of electing Head Girls Team and House Officials
- Ideas passed on to Miss MacKenzie
• Discussing peer listening leaders
• Money raised from Chlamydia testing £160 will go to the Leavers Ball to reduce ticket prices
• Money from the e-team £150 will be donated to the Sixth Form charity.
