World War I Battlefields

18th - 21st October 2010, for three nights.

Open to pupils in years 7 to 11, this trip will focus upon visits to historic sites connected with the First World War.

Travelling by executive coach and ferry from Dover to Calais, we will stay at the Château d'Ebblinghem, close to St Omer, from where we plan to visit battlefield sites including La Boiselle crater and Newfoundland Park, with its memorial to the Newfoundland Regiment. A visit to Ypres is included and we shall attend the Last Post ceremony at the Menin gate, where each evening the firemen pay their respects to those with no known grave.

We will also visit the Flanders Field Museum and the respite station at Talbot House. There will be an opportunity to visit the resort of Poperinge and to sample Belgian cuisine at a restaurant in Ypres.
