Malta Swim Tour

6th - 11th April 2010

We were amongst 40 girls from Dame Alice Harpur School and Bedford High School for Girls who went to Malta on the 6th of April for six days. We arrived at school bright and early at 5:30 am. The coach journey to Heathrow was 2 hours long and we were already having fun! By the time we arrived at the airport we had already made at least one new friend. The plane journey wasn't too long, a first time for some.

On arrival in Malta we got our bags and were at the hotel within no time. Whilst staying at the hotel we had entertainment every night. This included an amazing foam party where we danced for hours soaked in foam. We also enjoyed discos, karaoke, pizza night and our final night at the Hard Rock Café. The days were spent on the beach, shopping and bowling.

Then there was our swim training. For 2 of our 5 days in Malta, we spent 2 hours being coached by an ex-Maltese Olympian in an outdoor 50m pool, which was a new experience for most of us, to swim in such a big pool and, in the sun! Then we had another 2 hours in an indoor 25m pool.

On our second to last day in Malta, we were at a big gala with local Maltese teams and one English team. We all did really well and some of us even got medals! Whilst we were in Malta we were incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to have dinner with the High Commissioner of Malta who is an old Dame Alice girl. Her house was beautiful and the food was incredible, so all in all we had a fantastic night.

We have so many great memories from Malta and the swimming, we made many new friends too. Our teachers organised a brilliant trip which everyone really enjoyed, so thank you to Ms Calder, Miss Grey, Miss Fisher and Mrs Keyte. We loved our trip to Malta. It was outstanding.
