Leadership Training

On Thursday 12th June all girls in Year 12 participated in a Leadership Training Day. The day had two different sessions. In one session the girls had a short briefing about the qualities that make a good leader and then worked in groups to achieve tasks set by the intelligence core of the Army. They had to disassemble and reassemble a quad bike, construct a bailey bridge and a radio mast as well as cover ground without touching it using planks, tyres and ingenuity. Different girls had the opportunity to lead their teams and to reflect on the problems of leadership and the criteria for success. We hope that this will give each girl further insight and self-knowledge as she starts to prepare her application for courses in Higher Education next year.

In the second session David Webb of the Self Protection Network gave a presentation about the risks in our increasingly violent culture and ways of minimising personal risk. The talk was followed by an opportunity to try out some basic self-defence moves, although the main message of the day was awareness and avoidance of potentially threatening situations. This is particularly pertinent to Sixth Form girls consider potential GAP year travel and moving away from home for the first time.

As you will see from the photographs of the day, the girls thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learnt valuable 'life lessons' in a practical way.
