Senior School Duke of Edinburgh (DofE)

By Miss Sadler (Bronze DofE Coordinator)

On Sunday 17th March, the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) cohort convened for their first training day of the year.

The students engaged in various activities, including constructing tents, investigating the importance of nutrition during expeditions, honing map-reading skills to distinguish between roads and paths, acquiring basic first aid skills, and learning the essentials of packing for expeditions.

During the lunch break, students utilised trangias to cook their meals, discovering that the cooking process isn't as rapid as it is at home. They took advantage of the opportunity to pose questions to the staff and seek advice from Isabel Baker (Upper Sixth), one of our Gold-level students. Isabel shared insights from her own expeditions, highlighting what strategies worked effectively and offering suggestions for improvement.

Overall, the students gleaned valuable knowledge and are eagerly anticipating their expeditions scheduled for June.
