On Saturday 6th April, our talented equestrians proudly represented BGS at the NSEA National Show Jumping qualifiers at Bury Farm, Leighton Buzzard. Members finishing 1st-4th Individually and 1st or 2nd in Teams qualify for Nationals at Addington in October.

It was a blustery but bright day with the first outdoor competition of the year. The students and their ponies all looked very smart and enjoyed supporting each other. Clover White (Year 8) and her pony Lacey had a speedy clear in the 70 class to finish 3rd giving them a Nationals qualification. Lily Sonsino (Year 9) and Roxy also had a clear round in the 70.

Lucy Maudlin (Year 9) and Twister took 4th place in the 80 giving them a qualifying spot. The 80 Team of Clover, Lily, Lucy and Jess Yeoman’s (Year 11) combined score gave them 1st place with another qualification place.

Holly Maudlin (Year 11) and Perdie finished 2nd in the 110 class, qualifying for Nationals and also Hickstead Elite in June.

The two-day competition saw over 100 equestrians including Olympic team riders and many professionals compete in dressage, show jumping and cross country.

On the first day, Holly and Perdie completed a dressage test against very stiff competition, which left them 76th. However, the following day they persevered and jumped two perfect clear rounds in both the show jumping and cross country, which placed them in 26th place. This class was also the first U18 GB observation trial for the season, Holly and Perdie finished 5th out of the Juniors competing. They now go onto the second trial this weekend at Osberton International, Notts with final selection taking place in June.
